On May 24, 2025, the Society of Nepalese Engineers in the UK (SONEUK) held its inaugural "Engineering Research Work Presentation and Competition" in Aldershot, England. The event provided a prestigious platform for eight emerging engineers to showcase innovative solutions to contemporary global challenges before a panel of academic and industry experts.

Diverse Technical Showcase

The competition featured a broad spectrum of research, reflecting the multi-disciplinary nature of modern engineering. Participants delivered 10-minute technical presentations followed by rigorous Q&A sessions:

Excellence Recognized

The judging panel—comprising Dr. Hom Nath Dhakal, Dr. Birendra Shrestha, and Dr. Ramesh Marasini—evaluated the presentations based on technical merit and delivery.

  • First Place: Er. Krishna Kandel was declared the winner for his impactful work on structural repairs.

  • Runner-Up: Er. Sujan Sapkota took second place for his critical research on glacial lake safety.

Diplomatic Support and Soft Skills

The awards were presented by His Excellency Mr. Chandra Kumar Ghimire, the Ambassador of Nepal to the UK. In his address, Ambassador Ghimire praised SONEUK’s commitment to nurturing young talent and reminded the participants that while technical expertise is vital, "soft skills" such as communication and public speaking are the ultimate catalysts for professional success.

The event, coordinated by Dr. Surya Nath Ghimire and welcomed by General Secretary Er. Manoj Pun, concluded as a major milestone in SONEUK’s mission to foster academic excellence and professional growth within the Nepali diaspora.
